I want to start this newsletter off with an apology. I have had it in drafts for a while now. I have shared about the grief journey before and how hard it can be when one is navigating through "No Hope" to get to "New Beginnings". That is where I have found myself in the last 6 months. I have described hope during that time as a flickering candle, but as I continue to move through the journey of grief, I am thankful that hope is growing into flames of fire. I want to highlight a few things. First, I had the opportunity to reunite with Simba and Rumbi, whom I had worked with in Zimbabwe, when we were together in Kenya in October for a Global Community of Practice Event. That month was also the 20th anniversary of my first trip to Zimbabwe! Kenya brought many reunions and opportunities to present on trauma healing. I led and moderated a workshop, led a panel discussion, and shared the changes to the children's trauma-healing curriculum. That material has since been successfully piloted in South Sudan and the Gulf and will soon be with an editor for typesetting. I have shared before that the last few years, I have been more involved in curriculum development. That has been a gift during this season of grieving. I am excited to be moving back into direct ministry, though, with a trip planned soon to Nigeria to train 30 leaders in trauma healing for teens. We will take your prayers for this trip to Nigeria. There are a variety of security risks to consider, not just for Nancy and me but also for the leaders on the ground. We have done what we can to make well-informed decisions, and now we are taking a step of faith and trusting the Lord. I will travel from Nigeria to Cyprus before returning to the States. This is a very exciting training as it is the culmination of work put in over the last few years, and we look forward to seeing what the Lord will do through the leaders in Nigeria. The year started off rough with the unexpected passing of Dave Collins. Dave was like a dad to me through the last 25 years of friendship with his daughter, Beth. His loss is significant for the family, and I would love for you to lift up prayers for them. May his loss draw the family to the Lord and an openness to receive His comfort and care. Thank you for your support and prayers. If you want to know more details, reach out to me. I would love the chance to share more personally about what God is doing. Grace and peace to you, Misty Check out the blog post I was a part of for the launch of Unstuck: A Teen's Guide To Living In Uncertain Times If you work with youth, you will find this resource at https://beyonddisaster.bible/for-youth and let me know how I can assist you.
